Its no secret I have been MIA for a HOT minute!
Life has been busy, at times a little depressing and a lot has changed!
I had a lot on my plate up until things kind of hit the fan (ill address it at a later date… maybe) and well, all these things I was so busy worrying about all of a sudden didn’t matter.
So here we are.. aaaalmost 2 months since my last blog post.
I wanted to break the silence with a helpful post and one I’ve been meaning to do for a while.. And to be honest its one which doesn’t require an awful lot of brain power from me.
Its MY BOOK AND PODCAST RECOMMENDATIONS (hold the applause)..
Lets just get straight into it and start with books.
Ok so a little disclaimer before I rattle off a list of my all time fav reads, I am a BIG self-help / self-development book junkie. Its basically all I read so if this isn’t your forte then well you’ve come to the wrong place
#1. The secret – Rhonda Byrne
This one was a gift (Bless your soul, Aimee) and it’s also the book which ignited my love for the whole ‘law of attraction’ bizzo which kind of led me to a lot of the other books you’ll find within this list. I’m sure a lot of you have heard about The Secret (its also a movie on Netflix if books aren’t ya thing), but if not it’s a book which is based on the law of attraction – you know, the whole “our thoughts become our things” chat? It dives real deep into this universal law, how it works and how it can be applied to your life. It sounds crazy to the ears (or eyes in this case) of someone who has never heard or the law of attraction before but there is a lot of science behind the law of attraction and if you’ve never heard of it and your interested to learn more, I think this is a good place to start. This one is a bit more.. serious, I guess I would say, in the sense that it isn’t a humorous or a really relatable book like some of the others I recommend. However, Its easy to read and it lays it all out there in an easy to understand way making it a super good place to start for the law of attraction ‘beginner’.
#2. Make it happen – Jordanna Levin
This is another ‘law of attraction-ey’ book however it talks about the law of attraction and how it can be used for manifestation. I feel like I may lose a lot of people within this and a lot of you I’m sure are like OK this girl is weirder than I thought, I’m out! But I shit you not, I was 100% that girl who claimed she was an atheist, didn’t believe in god or religion or ANY higher power. Life was life, shit happens, we have no control over anything and that was that. This was until I started to listen to podcasts and read books on the universal laws (AKA the law of attraction etc) and manifestation. For me its something to put my faith into, which doesn’t ask a lot of me, and being a very logical person the science behind it really entices me.
Anyway, this one is about applying different universal laws (no, the law of attraction isn’t the only one) to achieve the life of your dreams through manifestation. This one is a more practical guide to manifesting and when I say practical I really mean it. Jordanna outlines an equation to follow to achieve manifestation and one element of this equation is action. This is a part which a lot of people who talk about manifestation fail to touch on – which I find CRAZY. Hello, we cant sit on our couch and think about bags of money and they’ll just turn up on our doorstep? Jordanna presents the equation and examples of how to apply it to your life in a funny and super relateable way. Its such an easy book to read and its also got little exercises throughout to help you on your manifesting journey! 10/10 recommend.
#3. Your Dream Life Starts Here – Kristina Karlson
OK, law of attraction and manifestation haters this one has nothing to do with EITHER. The author of this book is Kristina Karlson, who is the founder of the company and brand KikkiK. This book basically takes you through a journey of self-discovery, you unpick literally every inch of yourself to uncover the values and beliefs which drive your habits and how all of this matters when it comes to creating your dream life. Kristina Karlson makes you get serious about what you want and then throughout the book you build on this, covering every aspect of how your going to make this dream a reality. It is a very, very thorough book which I found extremely valuable. You can also buy a journal to go alongside this book, which is a place you can write all your answers down to the exercises throughout the book, however I just used a blank journal. One thing I would say is, although this book has amazing self-discovery (trust me you learn things about yourself you didn’t know before) exercises, if you don’t have some kind of idea about what you want for your future I imagine it would be quite a hard book to get through. It can be repetitive but if you have a big end goal your working towards it is really, really helpful!
#4. Mastering Your Mean Girl – Melissa Ambrosini
Surprise, surprise another self help book (ya girl clearly needs a lot of help). This one is all about the mean little voice inside your head and how to combat him/her. Again a super relateable and humerous take on mastering your inner mean girl voice and a super easy and addictive read. I took this one down to queenstown with me when Beau and I went for my birthday and finished it within the 4 or 5 days we were there (and its not like I was sitting at home reading it constantly, its just THAT good). Melissa Ambrosini honestly becomes like your own little hype girl telling you you can create your dream life and achieve anything you set your mind to by using her methods of blocking out your mean girl who tells you ya cant!
#5. Goddess Revolution – Mel Wells
This one was honestly a game changer for me after I competed in the body building show I did back in 2017 (I think?). This one is basically all about our body image, our relationship with ourselves and food and how a negative relationship with these things can impact our entire lives in so many ways. Mel Wells talks about her own experience with a negative relationship with all these things and basically how it sent her into a downward spiral in life. She guides you through unpicking and overcoming this. Honestly if you feel you have any issues with body image, your self-worth, FOOD or even if you don't, this is such a life changing book. That sounds V dramatic but I hand on heart can tell you this book hugely positively influenced my outlook toward these things and I recommend this to literally everyone. I don’t know how many of my friends I have FORCED into reading this book. SO GOOD.
Side note: Mel Wells also has a second book which I brought and am still getting through. Her second book is “Hungry for More” which is again about diving deeper into your food and body psychology. The approach of this one is more about understanding unwanted eating patterns and cravings and how leading a more fulfilled life can help to ‘treat’ these bad habits.
#6. EVERYTHING BY DOCTOR LIBBY.
I feel like it goes without saying Dr Libby is the womens health QWEEN. I rate every single one of her books. She manages to incorporate just the right amount of science and layman’s language to produce a book which is both super educational but so easy to understand. If your looking for a place to start a few of my favs by her are:
“Womens Wellness Wisdom”
“Beauty from the Inside Out”
“The Beauty Guide”
& “What am I supposed to Eat?”
#7. You Are A Badass At Making Money – Jen Sincero
The title basically says it all.. In this one Jen Sincero talks about her journey from living in a garage to living her current SUPER lush life. She talks about how for years she watched money slip through her fingers without quite knowing where the heck it was going?? Jen Sincero gives you tips and exercises to assist you to make the mindset shift necessary if you want to stop your money slipping through your fingers and be a bit better attracting money into your life. This one is a again similar to the previous manifestation books ive talked about in the sense that this book focuses on attracting and drawing money into your life and how focusing on how much money you don't have isn't going to make you the money you want. I had this one downloaded on my phone and found myself reading it in my lunch breaks – I know, I’m so lame but that’s how good it is. I feel like this one was so beneficial to my money mindset and I think anyone who is wanting to make this shift should get amongst this one!
PODCASTS
I am also a serious sucker for a good poddy! I love my morning walks with a coffee and a good poddy – UGH dreamy! Ideally every single one of my days left on this earth would start this way!
#1. The Healthy Hustlers Podcast – Madelyn Carafa
This was a fav when I first discovered podcasts and its been right at the tip top of my list ever since! Basically Madelyn interviews a series of different guests who are hustling in all sorts of different ways and she gets to the bottom of how they stay healthy while doing what they’re doing! She describes her podcast as a “series of healthy conversations” where you can find advice and guidance for living your best life, a pep talk and a boost of healthy enthusiasm to fuel your health and wellness goals!
#2. The Rise and Conquer Podcast – Georgie Stevenson
OK ill admit I am extremely biased toward this one because I am Georgie Sevenson’s BIGGEST fan! I follow her on the gram (and you should to) – her whole health journey started from a really negative place with food and exercise where she under-ate and over-exercised to the point of losing her period along with a host of other unwanted symptoms. Nowadays Georgie promotes a more holistic, all inclusive approach to health. She encourages people to go out and live their best life minus the diets and strict exercise regimes! She is so real and raw on her gram and honestly its so refreshing!! She also is killing it with her career and is such an inspiration! She recently started the Rise and Conquer podcast where she too interviews a series of guests about lots of different topics surrounding health, wellness, career, mindfulness, spirituality – all that good stuff! She interviews her guests really well and I love the topics covered! Cant rate this one enough!
Those two are the only podcasts I will follow and listen to religiously. However I have a few others which I think are worth a mention as I will go to these ones if I’m all up to date with my favs..
Your Dream Life – Kristina Karlsson (this is basically the podcast version of the book I talked about above..)
The Amy Rushworth Show – Amy Rushworth
The Kylie Camps Podcast – Kylie Camps
Seize the Yay – Sarah Holloway
KIC Pod – Laura Henshaw and Steph Claire Smith
And that’s it (Not sure I can even say that because I feel like that was a lot?!). All my fav books and podcasts right here and right now. No doubt this is subject to change and the lists are more than likely to double in size by the end of this year but guess that makes for another blog post doesn’t it!
Hope this was super helpful! I know I am a huge fiend for new good reads and good poddys so I hope you guys find some new favs within these lists!
Much love xxxxx
